We have developed a F-selectiveSP ICP-MS method for the analysis of PTFE and validated it with optical methods and by additional targeting of C in individual PTFEmicroparticles. In a proof-of-concept, bulk PTFE was artificially degraded in simulated seawater and exposed to constant agitation and UV radiation. The developed method allows us to characterize the degraded PTFE in terms of size, mass and PNC.
